FOUND: Roman-era mosaic dildo
For sale on eBay:
I wonder if this was utilitarian or strictly ornamental. It must've been a rough ride if used for play.

I'll admit that my knowledge of Roman culture circa 300 A.D. is a little spotty, but it seems odd (to me) that a Roman dildo from that period would be circumsized.

Did you ever see a Roman-era dildo with a foreskin?
*scratching head*
(no, not that one)

300 AD is around the Christianization of the Roman Empire, so it might be possible that at least some of the Romans were circumcising their sons. Or maybe it's a Jewish phallus. Or maybe 2000 year old mosaic glass-work doesn't hold the detail of foreskin very well. Or maybe an erect uncut penis looks exactly the same as an erect cut penis, which it does (to me.)
Also, Greek herms, from a few hundred years earlier, don't look much different, and those are just big erect classical penises, too.
Anyway, I think it's kind of pretty. ^_^

It takes a sharp experienced eye to tell erect cut and uncut apart. Or, for that matter, flaccid uncut with the skin slid back and cut. A dildo with a bared glans is probably easier to make, and sexier for many of us. Hence no old time dildo, and very very few contemporary ones, do justice to the foreskin. But hey, it's OK by me if Mother Nature does a few things that technology can't emulate yet.
