I started collecting pinup postcards a few weeks ago, mainly out of curiosity.   Seems unlikely these cards ever traveled by mail, unless they were inside a brown paper envelope.  Most of them have satin or linen finishes which make the photos slightly blurry.  Perhaps they were novelty items, sold in adult bookstores or at newstands.  It's kind of interesting and quaint to think back to a time (1950s - 1960s) when people bought and traded sexy postcards the way we buy and share sexy files today.

It's the second time a friend has envisioned me as an acid queen.  Which is especially entertaining as I've never taken a hallucinogen.  Not surprisingly, I was always other peoples' trip guide.  Maybe it was because I couldn't contemplate giving up control of mind.  Or maybe because I was always terrified I'd look in the mirror and see.....

Awesome New Review of The Truth About Sex

It's a thrill, for so many reasons, to read the review my friend Race Bannon just wrote.

 

I have been promising to post a review for The Truth About Sex: A Sex Primer for the 21st Century for a few weeks since I finished reading it. So here’s the abbreviated version of the review:

Everyone should read this book. I mean everyone.

OK, with that said, read on if you want more details.

Let me say up front that Dr. Gloria Brame is a friend of mine and someone I have longed admired for her sound mind and wonderful writing. She is one of the most refreshing and qualified voices in the world of sexuality today and reading anything by her is a joyful experience. Her latest book, the first in what she anticipates will be a trilogy, is no different.

What's so important to me in this review is that Race, who might not ordinarily pick up a book that talks about straight sex, connected with my overriding theme: It doesn't matter the type you have or who you have it with. Sex itself is critical to physical and emotional well-being. Sex is good for you. Skip those orgasms at your own peril: literally. In the next volume, kinksters will perhaps better understand my mission here: to liberate people from pigeonholes and anti-sex definitions, from all the myths and medical quackery that has distorted understandings of sexual behavior in humans.  

Ultimately, it is my goal to make the world a better place for people like us, and my way of doing it this time around is to start with sex from scratch and help adults -- whether straight, gay, lesbian, transgender, fetish, kinky, swinger, poly or something else -- build new, more accurate models of sexual health.
