Wonderful to see my favorite group, the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance, prominently included in this great piece about the history of free speech in America.
I am personally most inspired by Thomas Jefferson, the architect of the Bill of Rights, and the founding father who lit the fuse of free expression in this country. While his vision was much broader than free speech activism, his views on liberty in general, and free speech in particular, are inspirational and just as relevant today as they were 200-plus years ago.
