Thanks to a comment from my buddy Mako, I realized recently that there may be some older Scene folks who knew me by an early "scene handle" that I used -- and I used a bunch in the day.
Yes, I always liked to keep busy. ;)
Anyway, here goes, a short list of my most famous handles:
Mistress Cleopatra ("Queen of Denial"), ca. 1984-1987, on SOBNET's nyc-based bdsm board, Love-Line! Eeee. Cleo was a crazy bitch, I must admit: I had newbie top disease up the wazoo. What a ride! I was exhilarated but my unbounded sadism broke a lot of hearts. Which, I guess, I'm not entirely unproud of.
The days of the BBS. Who's old enough to remember the on-line world before the Internet? I got my first vision of what technology would bring in 1983, when I was working as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley and Union Carbide debuted brand new technology: annual reports you could download to your pc (at the time mine was a Compaq "portable," that weighed about 15-20 lbs). In 1984, I read about The Source, and then an SM friend introduced me to SOB-NET (sexually oriented boards-network).
Mistress Angelique, ca. 1987-1994, on Compuserve as a kinder, gentler sadist, where I founded Variations II/Section 12, the first on-line SM support group, became its mother/goddess figure, published sm fiction in HardBound and other vtg. SM magazines, threw Section 12 parties in ny (thanks to Lenny Waller opening the Vault early for me every time), and began doing peer counseling with people trying to come out as kinky.
Mistress Miranda, ca. 1989 - 199?, feature articles and taped interviews for Stand Corrected spanking magazines. I also accepted clients on a limited basis for very very expensive spankings. :) I told the story on my radio show's episode of "Ask a Dominatrix"
Those were my three most famous incarnations. I was not beyond changing the handle when it suited me, but everyone who knew me knew my real name anyway. I stopped using handles completely when I signed the contract to write Different Loving. But that's another story.....
HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!
