The day after Labor Day and everyone seems to be trying desperately to catch up on all the work they haven't been doing. I'm caught in their whirlwind even as I continue my valiant efforts to get through another plain old day in the life of Gloria Brame.
Two small highlights: came downstairs in my sleep t-shirt to find our carpenter Terry standing in the living room. OOOPS. "Not as bad as last time," he reminded me (because I'd completely blocked out the last time I trotted down naked when he was there). Tried to act casual as he followed me into the kitchen. I could feel his eyes fondling my thighs. A little awkward but mainly funny. Got my coffee, flipped my hair, and bolted.
2. Went to dentist for routine cleaning. Massive traffic, which is unusual in Athens. While waiting for Will to get his teeth cleaned, I visited with our doc's menagerie of exotic African birds. It was all fine and dandy until I realized the green parrot had escaped its cage. I realized it the instant he sank his razor-sharp raptor claws in my wrist. I shook my arm hard, scolding him as if he was a dog which surprised the parrot as much as me. As soon as he jumped to the floor, I darted back to the reception area where they dabbed on goo and gave me a bandaid for my wrist (but nothing for my wounded dignity). It looked impressive at first but by the time we got home, it was already almost healed. Bah. I wanted a scar to impress all my friends.
When we got back, and to prove that I survived, spirits intact....a photo snapped on my deck just an hour ago.
