My friends at the Fresh Fruit Arts Festival in NYC just set a date for their 2010 event and have issued their annual call for participants.

Yes, Fresh Fruit is a colorful and healthy snack. But it is also an inclusive International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Cultural & Arts Festival held in Manhattan each July! All Out Arts' and New Village Productions' Fresh Fruit Festival feeds the spiritual and artistic souls of the LGBT and artistic communities.Fresh Fruit's mission is to share the LGBT community's unique perspective, creativity and diversity and to build links between the LGBT, local, national and international artistic communities as well as to the general public.

When sexual conservatives dream...

Do they dream of the way women as they once were (and, all too often, still are) viewed -- their bodies as fodder for crude humor? I get it that lots of the men still pack a lot of patriarchal "men rule the world" attitudes but I've never quite understood the women who uphold that status quo. Don't they want to have their own identities?

Honestly, I do love these bizarre old pix. I just would feel a lot better if there were also images of men holding eggs up to their naked testicles too. If human beings cannot help sexually objectifying each other -- and history proves that they really cannot -- then let's make the most of the hormonal cards we were dealt and make it a two-way street. Trying to shut it ALL down doesn't work.  We're wired to be lusty brutes.

The 'Stonewall Riots' on 28 June 1969, in New York, are remembered as the start of the global LGBTQ rights movement. This year is the 40th Anniversary.

That's 40 years of gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans and queer people fighting for our rights in the streets, in the courts, in the workplace, in communities around the world!

New Events Category

Forces have recently converged to convince me I should add a new category to the blog for events that might be of interest to you guys. For one, some of my personal friends (most recently Cleo Dubois and Fakir) have all kinds of fascinating art shows, classes, and so on they're involved with; meanwhile, lots of my FaceBook friends host or promote every manner of intriguing party, conference, gallery opening and so on. Every day I decline invitations to events I wish I could attend because they sound so amazingly fun, or spiritual, or intellectually stimulating. So starting today, I'm creating an official Events category, and instead of just kicking myself because I won't be able to attend this or that, I will put the info to good use and share it with you, in case you can and want to go.
