Bad (in the sense of bad) tats

Saw the summary of a 21 bad tatoos list on my reader the other day, but was disappointed when I got there. I agree with its author that some tats truly ARE most unfortunate. He nails a few, like the guy who used his underarm hair as the pubes in a nudy lady tat, or this guy:

Tattoos are supposed to be a permanent, physical expression of yourself. Be it to commemorate a special time in your life or to remember a family member or friend, tattoos speak volumes about those wearing them. Consider this a helpful reminder that polishing off a 30-pack of Bud Light with a girl you met outside the anger management counseling center is not the best environment for tattoo planning.

I thought he missed the mark completely, though, on tribal tats, as well as tats people deliberately choose to transform their lives. The author seems to believe that people who can't hide their tats under business suits will live to regret their choices. That kind of corporate, conformist mentality is exactly what extreme tattooists are fighting against through their body art.

Killer heels: the madness of McQueen

I love feet. I love shoes. But when I look at these, I can't help wondering if his next collection will feature stilts. McQueen's models should get hazard pay for navigating the runway in these.

They may be the height of chic, but it’s unlikely that British designer Alexander McQueen tried out his own creations ahead of their unveiling in Paris last night. Instead he left it to his models to gingerly make their way along the catwalk in crystal-studded shoe-boots with 12-inch elevations.

Bottom of the stack: vintage lingerie ads

My last of the day. Hope you enjoyed all the funky old ads.

Starting with bloomers, once sold as the perfect gift for your dainty sweetheart.

Hard to believe, girdles were once an absolute fashion necessity for the modern woman. Girls were indoctrinated into wearing them in their teens.

Women were led to believe it would transform their bodies.

Never mind that wearing a tight girdle is TORTURE. Or at least it was for me when my mom made me wear the awful things under fancy dresses. Just remembering the burning biting red welts of my adolescence gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Fashion magazines made women feel they couldn't be beautiful without restrictive garments.

Of course, some independent souls opted for comfort over beauty. Especially when they caught whiff of that new-fangled trend so popular with the young folk: comfortable underpants.
